𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | The University of Mindanao Ilang High School conducted a community extension on December 14, 2023, at SPMC Children’s Cancer Institute House of Hope.

At 3 PM, the selected faculty and staff of UMIHS went to the SPMC Children’s Cancer Institute, located at J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City. They gave gifts such as old and new toys from UMIHS students; they have been informed to sanitize the toys first, if possible, so that no bacteria or any other harmful organism can be transferred to the children. Inside the gifts were letters to show love and support to the cancer patients as the spirit of Christmas approaches.

The UMIHS Alumni Officers also sponsored the foods from Jollibee that were given to the children so that not only their hearts but also their stomachs would be full. Althea Alo, a grade 12 student, participated in the said community extension. Alo said, “𝘕𝘪 𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘬𝘰 𝘫𝘶𝘥 𝘥𝘢𝘸 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘨 𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘢𝘥𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘵𝘰, 𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘬𝘰 𝘬𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘴 𝘯𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘢 𝘮𝘨𝘢 𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘯𝘪. 𝘈𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘯𝘪 𝘥𝘢𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥.” Sponsors for the conducted community extension were the UMIHS students, Alumni Officers, and faculty.

Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces made the UMIHS community emotional, knowing that receiving small gifts while they are facing a life-threatening condition will bring joy to their lives despite what they are going through. Let us share love as the spirit of Christmas approaches, Ga!
