𝗧𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗜 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬 | Minor sea-level disturbance expected in parts of the Philippines, Including Mindanao.

The UM Community urges everyone to stay vigilant and safe.

July 30, 2025 Davao City. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has issued a tsunami advisory following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake that struck off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, early wednesday morning. As a result, minor tsunami waves below one meter are expected to hit various coastal provinces in the Philippines, including areas in Mindanao.

Tsunami waves may reach affected areas between 1:20 pm and 2:40 pm today, July 30. The advisory warns of unusual sea-level changes rather than destructive tsunami waves. However, the public is strongly advised to remain cautious.

PHIVOLCS has issued the following public safety guidelines:

-Avoid beaches and coastal areas until the advisory is lifted.

-Do not engage in swimming, boating, or fishing along the shorelines of affected provinces.

-Residents near the shoreline are advised to move farther inland temporarily.

-Stay tuned to official government announcements and updates.
